"We
need to become the change we wish to see in the world."
Mahatma
Gandhi first spoke these insightful words of being a meaningful
community for one. They are the root for our motto:
|
 |
"Becoming the change we want to experience
in the world" |
 |
We are excited by all the new
people joining us to expand our fellowship and service. We
are a church family of God’s people, respectful of all, excited
by our challenges, contemporary in style and committed to
making a difference in our community and the lives of those
around us. |
|
We are a United Church.
One of our former moderators, Rev Clark MacDonald, said the
United Church is like a stew. Many denominations pressure
their members to believe the same, act the same, be the same
or, to become a ‘soup’ where no one ingredient is different
from another.
Not so in the United Church. We welcome the
gift of variety. In a stew the potato is different from the
carrot and both differ from the parsnip. Each brings their
distinctive flavour.
We seek members who value being this kind
of community. One of baptism services concludes with these
welcoming words:
We will not presume to tell you what you
must believe since ours is a community which values free
inquiry and searching, suspicion and plurality. We do, however,
promise to share your faith journey with you, asking only
that you share with us. In this way we shall learn together,
grow stronger together and be equally members of God's family
in this world.
People who embrace these values and attitudes
will find our church home open to the gifts, questions, experiences
and uniqueness variety brings. As you read these web pages,
and when you visit us in person, you will find us to a family
that welcomes God’s guests and always has room for another
at the table. |
